The Challenges

Live Chat/Video/audio with Payment & Timer: This app requires Live chat in which the user is allowed to chat on per per-minute basis. User has to purchase the time and then they can chat with any of the advisors. Building a normal chat is easy but this chat includes a Timer and also asks users to buy more time if they are running out of time.

Realtime Payment and Socket Issues: Earlier this app was built using Socket.io for live chat & and Twillio APIs for Video and audio. This resulted in a lot of cross-dependencies and the app wasn’t working as expected. Users were experiencing issues of chat and calls dropping or sometimes their money was debited but chat didn’t start at all. This resulted in a very bad user experience.

The Process

Project Scoping: Our team initially joined the project to address bug issues in the app.

However, upon evaluation, we determined that mere bug fixes wouldn’t ensure long-term stability. To truly optimize the app’s performance, we recommended transitioning to a reliable third-party system like Twilio, as opposed to the current Socket framework.

The client understood and supported our perspective. Subsequently, we outlined a comprehensive scope of work to rebuild the app. Using the Twilio SDK as the foundation for core call functions, we designed enhanced Timer and Payment functionalities on top of it.

Design: The client also wanted a design refresh since the old app looks dated, so we prepared a design for this app. The goal was to keep the design philosophy the same but give it a fresh look. Client loved our approach.

DevOps & Project Setup: We prepared a robust architecture for project deployment using AWS & GIT with CI/CD Pipelines for deployment.

Mobile Apps: In order to save time, we started on all 3 fronts together (Android, iOS & Backend).

Project Updates: We set a weekly project briefing with the client so that he knows how things are progressing.

Results

With 6 months of continuous hard work, the project was delivered to the client and the apps were launched on both app stores. Our client loved the look and feel of the app.
